What We Do

St John’s Preschool offers a happy, caring and stimulating environment where we can develop the mental, physical and social skills of your child to prepare them for school.

We provide an extensive range of purposeful and engaging play-based activities, both indoors and in our wonderful outdoor play area, to develop happy and confident children who are ready and open to learning.

Children learn best through play.  From sand and water, drawing and painting, building and role play, singing and making music, all of our activities are designed to promote and encourage communication, problem-solving, creative and physical development and to build children’s self worth.

Our day is structured to maximise opportunities for play.

We have an open door policy so children can choose to spend their free play time indoors or outside – whatever the weather!  Safe and enclosed, our outdoor play area provides shade from the sun in the summer, while trees give protection from the wind in the winter.  It is a valuable space for the children’s physical and social development and is used every day.

Our informal structure provides reassurance for the children, while encouraging their independence and helping them to understand the vital art of sharing and taking turns.  It also enables our team to integrate mathematical and communication skills into every session.

We have a wide range of indoor and outdoor equipment, which we rotate daily to keep children stimulated and engaged.  We also organise a number of events throughout the year including walks in the nearby Ashdown Forest; trips to the local library; visits to the neighbouring St John’s Church for Easter, Harvest Festival and Christmas; a Nativity play; Christmas Party with Father Christmas and Sports Day.
